Nancy Shaw Cramer

Contemporary minimalist textile mixed media artist

Nancy Shaw Cramer has returned to her studio to develop a singular contemporary collection, using new materials and techniques for mixed media surface designs. Previously, she owned the Shaw Cramer Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard for twenty years, following a career of nationally exhibited tapestries. Her handwoven work has been featured at the American Craft Museum, The Textile Museum, and major regional craft shows, museums and galleries.  A former Arrowmont instructor, she now re-emerges with new collections of beaded surface designs and monotype assemblages.

After a career in tapestry weaving and gallery direction, Nancy Shaw Cramer sought an unplanned, material-driven creative path. Her new mixed media surface designs feature painted monotype paper splashed, sprayed, embossed or rolled with dyes or luminous paints. Embellished with hand-sewn glass beads. Layered, floated, or mounted on box panels, these innovative materials and evolving techniques continue to inspire fresh, progressive artistic directions.
